Love you Wynn

I have to get on a plane in a few hours. Flying makes me a little nervous. Just wanted to tell you how much fun I had on your first Halloween and how much I love you. You are such an awesome little man. You make everyone laugh and smile.
Mind your mother while I'm gone and I'll see you Wednesday night.

Wynn Cheers (video)

FIRST FOOTBALL GAME

You had a big time at the Decatur v. Austin football game. You sat with Emma Hensley and Mary Reed during the first half. In the second half you sat with BeBe and Pops. You stayed the whole game and had a big time watching everything that was going on. You even flirted with middle schoolers at the concession stand. But we are not going to tell Mom about that.cid:4DF16877-F4C8-48C1-AD1F-57325D2A6C16/photo.JPG

Father's Day Fun on the Farm

We spent Father's Day in Sardis with MeMe, Grandaddy and GiGi. Your mom picked fresh blueberries with Grandaddy and we walked in the garden and called the cows. You laughed and played as always, but you really don't like the sound Dad makes when he calls the cows. Your little whimper is the saddest but cutest thing in the world. We love you so much.

Sleeping with Mom and Dad

You sleep with us a lot. You like your crib okay, but Mommy and Daddy really like you in here with them. We don't like being away from you. We will pay for that later probably. You are such a happy boy you even smile and laugh in your sleep.

COOL AUNT CARRIE GRADUATES

I will always remember your face when you first saw the expanse of Jordan Hare Stadium. Your little lips stuck out and your eyes got big. It was so hot, but Nana Carol, Poppa and the two of us stayed cool by walking under the big fan in the breezeway and using your baby wipes. Aunt Carrie graduated and you got to spend time with her at her apartment and at lunch at Outback. We walked around campus and got you your first Auburn hat and outfit.

Graduating from college is a huge accomplishment and we are all very proud of Aunt Carrie.

While we were on campus we went to Samford Hall. That is where graduates go to have their pictures made. It is an acknowledgment of accomplishment. I wanted to take your picture there. You have already accomplished so much in your brief time with us. And since you are the greatest accomplishment of my life we were going to take a picture.... And also to give you something to aspire to.

We had to wait a few minutes. Two ladies and a male graduate were already there. He wore his graduation gown but his hat cap rested in his lap while the ladies who I assume were his mother and sister directed his wheelchair up close to the Auburn University sign. His head was bald. It wasn't the kind of bald head you get by choice. It was that of a very sick person. His frame was thin. You could tell even under his gown. He was weak and frail. The ladies helped him... Almost carried him the few feet to place him at the sign for a picture. I couldn't help but think of how hard it must have been to be that sick... and to stay strong and focused enough to do what is necessary to graduate. It was obviously a family achievement. The ladies looked at their son and brother with great pride. With a future in doubt it would have been easy for the young man to give up on college. But goals and accomplishments are important. They don't define us. But they can describe us at least in part. I was as proud of that young man as I was of Cool Aunt Carrie. Despite serious obstacles he achieved. I'm sure his family helped him get there. It is the most basic and beautiful of the great American stories. His sister took your picture.

I hope that your life is one of joy, love and accomplishment.

6 MONTHS TODAY

It is so amazing. Six months has already past. I've been alive for 72 of your lifetimes and yet we have as many wonderful memories in these six months as we do the rest of our lives combined. Each day has brought something new and exciting. Holding hands. Smiling. Laughing. Crawling. Rolling over. Sitting up. Pulling up. Almost every day brings something new.

There have been so many exciting events. Coming home from the hospital and meeting friends and family. Doctors appointments. Having picnics in the park. Strolling the neighborhood. Playing in the big snow. Going to basketball games. Your Christening. Fun days with grandparents and great grandparents. Rock and roll gigs. The beach. So many things...

You are going to have a lot more firsts and exciting days. As you get older there will not be as many, but you should make every day as fulfilling as possible. And with every year of your life you should have at least one or two major and defining moments for that year. As in "the year of..." I'm pretty sure most of your Mom's and my big moments are going to be your moments. For instance, 2010 will always be the year of Wynn- the year we found out and finally got to meet you. 2009, Daddy had a really big case that you'll probably hear about later. 2008 was the tax school decision and beginning. 2007 was the year Mommy married Daddy. I think you should do at least one really big thing each year so when you are an old man - even older than me- you can look back on a life of excitement and accomplishment. You're well on your way. Of course there are a lot of little things you have to do all of the time... Like be a nice and polite young man.

So it was time for your six month doctor appointment. You were 17lbs and 8 oz and 27.5 inches long. The doctor put you in the 90th percentile in length. He said you were advanced because you crawl and sit up sturdy and strong and because you reach for things and move things from hand to hand. We didn't tell him you'd been doing it for two months.

Beauty sleep

Wishing we could freeze time

I'm watching you sleep. You are just a little angel. So peaceful. So innocent and so gentle. Before I laid you down I was holding you. I didn't want to lay you down. I wanted to freeze the moment. Capture in such a way that I can always call it up in my mind and experience it again. Every day is filled with moments just like that. We are so excited to watch you grow and learn. But there is a selfish side that wants to stop time and hold the moment the same way we hold you. Although we are so proud of all the "firsts" you are achieving almost every day... First crawl, green beans, holding your own bottle, and about a hundred more... They almost come too fast. As Miss Annie Cornell said, you'll be sixteen for a whole year, but the moments we are experiencing right now are over in an instant. We will just have to absorb every moment and soak it in. So many moments, but thankfully so much time.

WYNN PLAYS FOOTBALL... DAD IS JOYOUS

WYNN'S FIRST BIG FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE.

DAD'S BEEN BAD

I've been neglectful of your blog, Wynn. It is because I've been playing with you so much and working to keep you in diapers and formula. I'm going to try to make up for it as soon as I can. There is a thing called Youtube and I'm going to put a lot of your videos on Youtube. That way, they will always be there. (And it is easier than putting them on this website - although I'll still put some here.)

I love you very much and here is a link to you MamaRooing on Youtube.

Beach Trip

The Saturday after the Sardis game you, mom and Bebe went to the beach. I had to stay and coach. You had a big time, but mom made me feel better by telling me you acted like you missed me. I missed you and Mom so much it hurt. Mom sent me pictures of you everyday. You were gone from Saturday to Thursday.

When you got home you smiled and laughed and played with the puppies. I think you had fun on your first vacation but were very happy to get home.

That night we went to the finals of the basketball tournament. Dad's team lost but the kids played hard. You even made it into the team picture.

You are growing so fast. You recognize people and things and focus on them. You are such a happy baby. We love you more than anything.

We cheered hard for Sardis

Sardis basketball

On Feb 18 You and I went to Randolph Academy and watched Sardis play them in the first round of the state playoffs. You were very attentive and watched the whole game. It was a good game but Sardis lost. You may be the best player on the team, but that doesn't mean you get to take plays off. You have to play your hardest the whole time. That is especially true on defense. You might give up points you can never get back.

It was a fun night for son and dad despite the loss.

Wingate!!!!!!

You got to meet and hang out with dad's friend and college roommate, Wingate. And then we went to Tim's 40th birthday party on Saturday. Fun weekend for everybody. And on Sunday before they went home you got to meet Knox, Jason Wingate's son. He's going to teach you how to play soccer. We discussed it.

Guy Weekend

So mom had to go out of town for kassidy's baby shower. That meant it was a guy's weekend. We managed to survive and even went to your first concert. Michelle Malone and Tim Tucker put on a great show and you even got a shout out from the stage. I didn't get to hold you much because everyone there wanted to spend time with you. You were so well behaved. We even quietly changed a diaper in the restroom. Most importantly, you got to hear great live music. Twenty years from now when you are listening to some noise that you kids consider music, I'll have this night to remember how we both liked the same music at least once.

Yep...

Somebody is about a minute away from crawling.

And speaking of cool

Cool aunt Carrie and cool uncle Caleb got you some really cool gifts from taiwan. I'll put a picture or two up later. And cool aunt Carrie actually went to Arizona and saw CAM and Auburn win the national championship. I know you are a big CAM fan, Wynn. However, you need to hear the story of a guy named Kodi Burns. This year never would have happened without him. We'll talk about Kodi and Cam later. Love you Buddy.

We think you're great.

Mom and I just had a moment. We both just looked at you and said how perfect you are and how we can't believe we are lucky enough to be your parents. We have no idea what we did to deserve you. Then we did potatoes. That's what your mom calls it. I call it a pound or a dap. It's a fist bump. Either way, whatever it is won't be cool by the time you read this. But we used to be cool. And we love you.

Paper

And to top of your big weekend, your picture with the class of 2029 was in the paper today.

Big week.

A whole week of snow and then on Friday you got to make your first visit to the Lawyer's Lounge. Then Saturday after dad's game you watched Duke. Then you had pizza (mom did) at vittone's and met AshleyB. You were so good. Then you met Tim and Dean. Then you spent the whole night at Pops and BeBes. You slept 13 whole hours. Apparently that means you are growing a lot and fast. That's certainly true.

Snow!!!

So there was a white Christmas for your first snow. Then the biggest snow in 17 years hit. You played a little but it had been so cold you mostly watched the puppies.
